What the Crest Hid
I stopped for the pale tree’s branching trunk set against the slender red mast on the rise. The park lay open under a hard blue sky, yet the hill’s crest hid what continued behind it. Earlier, the distant avenue had blurred its ending with haze; here there was no haze to blame. I still couldn’t tell whether the mast marked a boundary or simply rose above one.
